What goes into a trip for me? What do I use to film? Which carry on bag lugs around the world with me?
These are the tools and sites I actually rely on when planning trips, booking flights, and filming for 35Left. I’ve used all of them myself, and I keep this list updated as my setup changes.
Some of these links are affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission if you book or buy through them. It doesn’t cost you anything extra, and it just helps support what I’m building here.
Flights and Booking
Skyscanner
Still one of the first places I’ll check when I’m planning flights. It’s useful for finding flexible routes, seeing which airlines are cheapest, and spotting weird multi-stop combinations.
PanFlights
Ideal for people who search for unconventional itineraries or flights. Rather than select “less than” X layovers/stops – PanFlights can set up an itinerary MAXIMISING flight sectors and layovers. A great resource if you want to check off a number of countries or cities on your travels. This is an amazing resource especially for travellers, solo travellers, AVGeeks, flexible travellers and budget travellers.
Booking.com
Most of the hotels I stay in for these trips are booked through Booking.com. It’s easy to use, and the free cancellation on a lot of properties makes planning more flexible.
Google.com Flights
Most reviewers don’t love to talk about Google Flights since they don’t easily have a way to pay for referral traffic, but Google Flights is honestly one of the greatest flight tools – I often use it to begin planning a trip – especially if I don’t care where I go – I just throw “Anywhere” as the destination from the departure airport, and go to town!
Gear I Use on the Road
DJI Pocket 3 and Action 5 Pro
Both of these are small enough to travel with and discreet enough to use in-flight without drawing attention. I use them for almost every video.
DJI Mic 2
My go-to audio setup. I use it for direct-to-camera bits and in-flight sound when possible. Compact, reliable, and decent battery life.
DJI Osmo Action Suction Cup Mount
Backpack Strap Mount Action Cam
Anker PowerCore 20100 – 20000mAh Ultra High Capacity Power Bank
Staying Connected
Yesim eSIM
I use Yesim to stay online as soon as I land, especially when I’m only in a place for a day or two. You can buy and activate them before you travel, which saves time and hassle.
